The Federal Government has given tertiary institutions 30 days to account for unspent TETFund allocations or face sanctions. Education Minister Dr. Tunji Alausa, during a meeting in Abuja, criticized the continued underutilisation of funds meant for infrastructure, with over N500bn reportedly lying idle. Institutions that fail to use their allocations may have them reallocated, as TETFund warns against delays and inefficiency.
Alausa announced that institutions must submit verified reports of unutilised funds, with new capacity-building and mentorship programmes to improve compliance. Quarterly reviews will track progress, and sanctions will apply for non-compliance. ASUU’s Prof. Victor Osodeke also urged penalties for heads of institutions who fail to deploy funds, saying it hinders educational development.
