The Energy Commission of Nigeria (ECN) has reaffirmed the Federal Government’s commitment to addressing electricity challenges in public hospitals and universities through increased investment in renewable energy. ECN Director-General Dr. Mustapha Abdullahi said the Renewed Hope Solarisation Project under President Bola Tinubu has deployed two-megawatt solar hybrid systems in several institutions, including the Aminu Kano Teaching Hospital, General Hospital Bangi, Enugu Research Centre, and the University of Abuja, with more sites planned for the next phase. Abdullahi added that the ECN is driving renewable energy initiatives, including solar mini-grid projects and the newly launched National Energy Policy and Master Plan to attract investment in clean energy. He also revealed that the Commission has established a pilot Green Hydrogen Plant to boost local adoption of green technologies and support Nigeria’s clean energy transition.
