The Lagos State Government is encouraging residents to turn their household waste into cash through a renewed effort to boost recycling and keep the city clean. The long-standing “Cash for Trash” program, run by the state Environmental Protection Agency, pays residents for recyclable waste to help reduce the impact of climate change in the state.
Commissioner for Environment and Water Resources, Tokunbo Wahab, shared a statement and video on his X handle highlighting the initiative. Every Thursday, the Lagos Waste Management Authority’s Recycling Team rewards residents who bring in recyclables, with demonstrations happening on Lagos Island to show communities how to earn income from waste. The program aims to benefit both residents’ wallets and the environment by promoting cleanliness and sustainability.
