Niger State Governor, Mohammed Bago, has announced a donation of ₦1 million to each family of the deceased and ₦500,000 to each injured survivor of the recent tanker explosion in Essa, Katcha Local Government Area. The governor made the pledge during a condolence visit to the community on Thursday, where he met with residents and local leaders. The tragic explosion, which occurred on Tuesday when residents were scooping fuel from a fallen tanker along the Bida–Badegi–Agaie road, claimed 42 lives and left 52 injured, according to the state emergency management agency.
Governor Bago expressed deep sorrow over the incident and condemned the act of scooping fuel from accident scenes, describing it as dangerous and criminal. He also announced plans to build a new primary healthcare centre in Essa and revealed that businessman Aliko Dangote has pledged to repair the Mokwa–Lambata Road. The governor urged residents to act responsibly during emergencies and assist in rescue operations rather than risk their lives.
