The Nigerian Army has announced the arrest of a high-profile terror suspect, the recovery of a cache of weapons, and the surrender of several terrorists during recent operations conducted between October 7 and 9. According to a source at Army Headquarters, these successes were achieved across various operational theatres. He said that troops of 2 Brigade, in collaboration with Department of State Services (DSS) operatives, raided a kidnapper’s hideout in Eket, Akwa Ibom, on October 7 and arrested notorious kidnap kingpin Emmanuel Akpan, known for his activities along the Oron/Ibaka axis; he is currently in DSS custody for further investigation. According to the source, troops from the 196 Amphibious Battalion apprehended an ISWAP/JAS terrorist in Baga, Kukawa Local Government Area of Borno, on October 8, as he attempted to infiltrate the town. He added that the Nigerian Army remains committed to safeguarding citizens, restricting the activities of terrorists, and fostering a secure environment for peace and economic growth.
