Atiku Abubakar, the presidential candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) for the 2023 elections, has stated his intention to regain his mandate through a court ruling, asserting that President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s administration is temporary and allegedly obtained through electoral misconduct. Speaking at a PDP stakeholders’ meeting in Bauchi State, Atiku emphasized the importance of elected officials in the National Assembly serving as a strong opposition rather than being compliant. He acknowledged that, according to the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), the PDP members-elect are not currently the majority in the National Assembly, but they should prepare to function as an effective opposition while also anticipating potential roles as the majority party once the electoral cases are resolved. Essentially, Atiku referred to this as a “Government in-waiting.”
