President Bola Tinubu is currently engaged in a closed-door meeting with former governors Nyesom Wike (Rivers), Dave Umahi (Ebonyi), and Godswill Akpabio (Akwa Ibom) at the Presidential Villa in Abuja. The three former governors arrived at approximately 2:33 pm but faced a brief delay as security personnel sought clearance from their superiors before granting them access to the President’s office, as they were not previously informed about the visit.
Wike and Umahi separately visited the state house last Friday to meet with the President. Wike was accompanied by former governor James Ibori of Delta State and Oyo State governor Seyi Makinde, while Umahi came with the newly appointed Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Senator George Akume. On Friday, Wike spoke to journalists, expressing his support for President Tinubu.
Akpabio is the favored candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC) for the position of Senate President, while Umahi, who recently left office, is a Senator-elect.
There is an unconfirmed report suggesting that Wike may be considered for a ministerial position due to his role in the presidential election on February 25, which brought Tinubu to power, despite being a member of the opposition Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).
