Abdul’aziz Abubakar Yari, the former Governor of Zamfara State and a prominent candidate for the Presidency of the 10th Senate, paid a visit to former President Muhammadu Buhari in Daura, Katsina state. This visit received a positive response from Buhari. Additionally, more senators-elect from various political parties have expressed their support for Yari, potentially disrupting the political dynamics within the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).
Accompanied by 22 senators-elect from different parties across all six geopolitical zones, Yari visited Daura to congratulate the former President on the successful completion of his tenure. Sources present at the meeting revealed that Yari was warmly received by Buhari, who displayed a jovial demeanor and did not express any disapproval towards his guests.
During the meeting, Yari and his team conveyed their congratulations to the former President and extended their prayers for his good health during retirement. They also assured Buhari of their commitment to fostering a harmonious relationship between the legislative and executive branches under the new administration. They emphasized their dedication to strengthening the legislative arm of government rather than engaging in confrontations with the executive.
Yari’s gesture of bringing over 20 senators-elect to visit Buhari showcased his humility, respect for elders, and true statesmanship. The former President, in turn, expressed gratitude for the visit and urged the group to collaborate with the Executive for the benefit of all Nigerians. He jokingly asked them to inform the public that he is in good health.
Meanwhile, more senators-elect continue to rally behind Yari as their preferred candidate ahead of the upcoming inauguration of the 10th National Assembly on June 13. Yari, in collaboration with Senator Orji Uzor Kalu, is vying for the Senate Presidency, competing against former Akwa Ibom State Governor Sen. Godswill Akpabio and Senator Osita Izunaso.
