In Lagos, on Monday, Chief Magistrate Bola Osunsanmi of the Ikeja Magistrates’ Court issued an order to detain Nnamdi Dike, a 41-year-old security guard, for the alleged sexual abuse of his lover’s 12-year-old daughter.
Dike, who resides in Akute, Ogun State, is being charged with sexual assault under section 137 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2015.
During the court proceedings, ASP Raji Akeem, the prosecutor, informed the court that the defendant committed the offense in November 2022 at No. 37, Shogbade Street, near the Power Line area of Ifako Ijaiye, Lagos.
Akeem stated that the victim confided in her teacher about the alleged sexual molestation by the defendant, who is her mother’s partner.
“The defendant would typically abuse the victim when her mother was absent and would threaten to harm her if she disclosed the incidents,” added Akeem.
Upon hearing the case, Chief Magistrate Osunsanmi declined to accept the defendant’s plea and ordered his detention at the Kirikiri Correctional Center until legal advice is received from the Director of Public Prosecutions.
Furthermore, Osunsanmi adjourned the proceedings until June 26, 2023.
