Jorge, Lionel Messi’s father, has revealed that his son has a strong desire to return to Barcelona during the upcoming summer. He made this disclosure to reporters following a supposed meeting with Barcelona president Joan Laporta on Monday morning.
Although Jorge denied having a meeting with Laporta, he expressed his personal wish for the Argentine captain to rejoin the Spanish club. When asked if he had discussed the possibility of Barcelona financing Messi’s return, Jorge stated that they had spoken recently but no concrete plans had been made.
Barcelona is reportedly awaiting approval from LaLiga this week regarding their financial plans for the upcoming transfer window. The club is also optimistic about re-signing Messi, as confirmed by coach Xavi Hernandez, who mentioned that Messi would make a decision regarding his future club this week, emphasizing that “the doors are open” for his return.
After spending two seasons with Paris Saint-Germain, the 35-year-old Messi is currently considering various offers as a free agent.
