The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has called upon President Bola Tinubu and Vice President Kashim Shettima to emulate the late President Umaru Yar’ Adua by publicly disclosing their assets. The PDP emphasized the importance of leading by example and demonstrating their commitment to transparent and accountable leadership. While the PDP is currently disputing Tinubu’s victory in the February 25 presidential election, the party encouraged both individuals to follow Yar’ Adua’s footsteps in publicly declaring their financial and material worth before the Nigerian people. The PDP spokesperson highlighted the statutory requirement for public officers to declare their assets and urged Tinubu and Shettima not to submit their asset declaration forms secretly. On the other hand, Festus Keyamo, the spokesperson for the dissolved APC Presidential Campaign Council, opposed the idea of the President publicly declaring his assets, stating that it is not a legal requirement but rather a matter of personal choice. The National Chairman of the Labour Party, Julius Abure, expressed his opinion that Tinubu should publicly declare his assets, citing the legal obligation to do so and questioning whether he would remember all his assets given his wealth accumulation after serving as a senator and two-term governor.
