A rugby league match in South Africa between Never Despair and Porterville was interrupted when a fan stabbed a player during halftime. According to the Tuesday report from the Daily Mail, the player was quickly taken to the hospital and later released after undergoing a successful operation on Sunday.
The attacker was apprehended by the police after being pursued by players and the chairman of the Never Despair team. In a statement, the Boland Rugby Union expressed their strong disapproval of the incident and confirmed that the match had to be called off as the referee was too traumatized to continue.
Mark Alexander, the President of the South African Rugby Union, also voiced his condemnation of the event.
