Census: Tinubu to Hold Meeting with NPC Chairman This Week

The National Population Commission (NPC) Chairman, Nasir Isa-Kwarra, is scheduled to meet with President Bola Tinubu this week, Waffi TV has learnt. The purpose of the meeting, as reported by our correspondent, is likely related to the updates on the 2023 Population and Housing Census. The census, originally planned for May 3-7, was postponed indefinitely. The decision to postpone was made by former President Muhammadu Buhari, with the new administration of Tinubu being responsible for determining the new date.

In an April 29 statement, the then Minister of Information and Culture, Lai Mohammed, stated that the Federal Executive Council emphasized the need for up-to-date data to drive development goals and improve the standard of living of the Nigerian people, considering that the last census was conducted 17 years ago.

Isiaka Yahaya, the spokesperson for the NPC, confirmed on Tuesday that the Chairman would be meeting with President Tinubu during the week, but the exact date was not provided. The purpose of the meeting is to update President Tinubu on the census preparation progress. When asked about the ongoing activities in preparation for the census, Yahaya mentioned that various tasks, including sensitization and online training, are still being carried out.
