Police Apprehend Imo Jail Escapee for Murder In Rivers

The Rivers State Police Command has reported the apprehension of an individual who escaped from the Owerri Correctional Centre in Imo State during a jailbreak incident in 2021. During a press conference in Port Harcourt, the state capital, Commissioner of Police Nwonyi Emeka provided details of the arrest. The suspect, identified as Peter Ogudo from the Awara community in the Ohaji/Egbema Local Government Area of Imo State, was allegedly involved in the murder of two individuals in his community. He fled to Rivers State in an attempt to evade justice but was ultimately located and captured by police operatives in Rumuolumeni, a suburb of Port Harcourt.

Commissioner Emeka stated, “On June 2, 2023, our operatives apprehended Peter Ogudo, 32, who hails from Awara in the Ohaji/Egbema Local Government Area of Imo State, at his hideout in Nkpor-Rumuolumeni, Port Harcourt. He was wanted for the murder of two persons in his community. The suspect had been on the police watch list since his escape from lawful custody during the Owerri Correctional Centre jailbreak in April 2021.”

Additionally, the Commissioner mentioned that a two-man car-snatching syndicate was arrested during a stop-and-search operation in Port Harcourt. The suspects, Ndubuisi Brown (48) and Amaechi Kenneth (35), failed to provide a satisfactory account of the vehicle they were in possession of, leading to their apprehension. The police recovered a red Lexus 300 SUV with Lagos license plate APP 664 BQ as evidence.

In another operation, the police raided the residence of Prince Ake in the Ekpena community of the Ahoada East Local Government Area. The house was believed to be a hideout for members of the Greenlander cult group. During the raid, one suspect identified as Progress Moses, also known as “Body Blinks” (25), was arrested. The police seized various items as evidence, including a locally-made wooden AK-47 rifle, a toy pistol, two motorcycles (one with Imo State license plate WER 301 QJ and the other without a plate), a machete, a knife, and several suspected charms.
