Some Former Governors Dined, Collaborated With Terrorists- Sani

During a live appearance on Channels Television’s Sunrise Daily, Governor Uba Sani of Kaduna State expressed concerns about certain former governors in the North-West region who had compromised the security alliance among states. He stated that these governors took an inappropriate approach to managing the internal affairs of their respective states, which ultimately contributed to the prevailing security challenges.

Governor Sani recalled a previous effort where the governments of Kaduna, Jigawa, Kano, Katsina, Kebbi, Sokoto, Zamfara, and even Niger State, which shares a border with Kaduna, had come together to develop a framework for addressing insecurity. This initiative involved a joint committee, collaborative funding, and close coordination with security agencies such as the army, air force, and police.

Unfortunately, the alliance broke down when certain state governors decided to engage with bandits and terrorists by socializing with them, offering them compensation, and engaging in negotiations. Governor Sani argued that this approach significantly hindered progress and caused a breakdown in the security alliance.

Recognizing the urgency of the situation, Governor Sani recently hosted a meeting with all the North-West governors at the Kaduna State Liaison Office in Abuja. Despite their political differences, they united to develop a policy framework for addressing the insecurity issue. They agreed on the importance of adopting a unified approach and emphasized the need to learn from the mistakes of past governors who compromised operations by providing monetary incentives and negotiating with the bandits.

Governor Sani further mentioned that the North-West governors are also planning to engage Governor Umar Bago of Niger State, as they face similar security challenges and believe in the necessity of collective action to address the issue.
