President Bola Tinubu, in Abuja on Wednesday, appealed to the European Union for assistance in bolstering security and promoting economic development in Nigeria and Africa. Tinubu emphasized the significance of support and collaboration from friends and development partners, such as the EU, to combat the severe poverty prevailing on the continent. According to a statement released by the Director of Information, State House, Abiodun Oladunjoye, Tinubu conveyed his message during a telephone discussion with the President of the European Council, Mr. Charles Michel.
The statement, titled ‘President Tinubu Seeks Support from European Council President via Telephone Conversation to Combat Poverty and Insecurity,’ highlighted Tinubu’s request for the EU to address specific security challenges in areas like Lake Chad and the coastal regions. The Nigerian President assured the EU and its member states of his commitment to maintaining communication and cooperation. Abiodun revealed that Tinubu emphasized poverty and insecurity as priority areas for his administration, pledging to take all necessary measures to tackle them.
During the telephone conversation, President Michel also extended congratulations to President Tinubu on his election.
