Aso-Rock: G-5 Members Meet Tinubu

On Thursday, President Bola Tinubu convened a gathering at the Aso Villa in Abuja with the members of G5, also known as the Integrity Group. This group, led by a serving governor and four former governors, caused significant division within the Peoples Democratic Party. They insisted that the then National Chairman, Iyorchia Ayu, step down and be replaced by a candidate from the southern region as a condition to support Atiku Abubakar, the party’s presidential candidate in the recent February 25 election. Both Atiku and Ayu stood firm and refused to yield to the demands of these former governors.

During the February 25 presidential election, Makinde and Wike reportedly played supportive roles to ensure Tinubu’s victory. Governor Seyi Makinde of Oyo state, along with former Governors Nyesom Wike (Rivers), Samuel Ortom (Benue), Okezie Ikpeazu (Abia), and Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi (Enugu), were present at the meeting. Additionally, the current governor of Enugu State, Peter Mbah, was also in attendance.

It is worth mentioning that Tinubu has met with Wike and Makinde on previous occasions following his election and inauguration. According to Waffi TV, last Friday, Tinubu had a meeting with Wike, Makinde, James Ibori (former governor of Delta), and Governor Seyi Makinde of Oyo State.
