The authorities at Obafemi Awolowo University (OAU), Ile-Ife, have refuted the circulating rumor regarding a university lecturer allegedly stealing phones from students during their examinations. This clarification was provided through a Press Release issued on Wednesday in Ile-Ife by Mr. Abiodun Olanrewaju, the University’s Public Relations Officer.
The management of OAU, Ile-Ife, became aware of a viral video depicting a young adult male supposedly involved in the theft of students’ phones within the examination hall. Speculations arose, with some claiming he was a lecturer while others believed he was an invigilator.
In order to set the facts straight, the University’s Public Relations Officer, Abiodun Olanrewaju, clarified that the individual in question was neither a lecturer in any of the University’s Departments nor a student. Olanrewaju emphasized that a well-dressed man in a suit had visited the campus and was subsequently observed stealing phones from the bags of students during their examinations. The man’s attire misled those who apprehended him into believing he was a lecturer assigned to invigilate the exams.
Olanrewaju further added, “Therefore, we urge the public to completely disregard any insinuations linking the culprit to the University.”
