Lagos: 44-year-Old Teacher Remanded for Defiling 10-year-Old Girl

Five individuals were brought before a Magistrates’ Court in Yaba, Lagos State on Wednesday, charged with rape and conspiracy. The accused include the victim’s two cousins, aged 11 and 13, as well as her 44-year-old teacher, who allegedly sexually assaulted her on separate occasions. Additionally, the victim’s mother and the mother of her two cousins were also charged with conspiracy. The defendants faced three counts of rape and conspiracy before Magistrate Patrick Nwaka. The boys and the victim lived together in a single-room apartment, where they reportedly took turns abusing her. The incident occurred in 2021 at 46, Ayanwale Street, off Toluwall, in the Ikotun area of the state. The teacher, Taofeek Davies, was accused of sexually assaulting the victim in his own home. Due to the boys’ ages, the case was conducted privately within the chamber. The prosecutor, Thomas Nurudeen, informed the court that the two mothers concealed the crime, leading to their conspiracy charges. The alleged offenses are in violation of Sections 137 and 263 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State of Nigeria, 2015, and carry corresponding penalties. The magistrate granted bail to the two women, setting it at N200,000 each with two reliable sureties. However, the teacher was remanded for 30 days, while the two boys were released to their father with a stern warning to ensure their presence in court when required. The case was adjourned until July 7, 2023.
