The Ooni of Ife, Oba Adeyeye Enitan Ogunwusi-Ojaja II, emphasized that traditional rulers possess a strong foundation to combat insecurity in the nation. The Ooni expressed this viewpoint during a gathering of President Bola Tinubu with traditional rulers from across the country at the Old Banquet Hall, Presidential Villa, Abuja on Friday. The purpose of the meeting was to engage with various stakeholders, including discussions on achieving national healing and unity.
The Ooni of Ife urged President Tinubu to utilize the expertise of traditional rulers in addressing the security challenges prevalent in the country. As the co-chair of traditional rulers in Nigeria, the Ooni emphasized the importance of working together to make President Tinubu’s tasks easier. He stated, “The traditional rulers are the foundation of this country today. We pledge our loyalty and support, and we want to collaborate with you to ensure a lasting legacy. Do not underestimate the potential of traditional rulers.”
Prior to the Ooni’s remarks, Sultan of Sokoto, Alhaji Sa’ad Abubakar III, highlighted that visits by the monarchs during a leadership transition are a customary tradition. He noted that the monarchs come from diverse professional backgrounds, including the military, judiciary, and business sectors, and possess the necessary skills to contribute to societal improvement. The Sultan assured President Tinubu of their willingness to offer assistance whenever reached out to.
The Ooni of Ife and Sultan of Sokoto expressed their support for President Tinubu and their commitment to the welfare of the people and the nation. They conveyed their hopes for a successful tenure and wished President Tinubu good health.
