According to a tweet from the Department of State Services (DSS) on Saturday, June 10, 2023, they have clarified that Godwin Emefiele, the suspended governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria, is not currently in their custody.
Waffi TV reported that President Bola Tinubu suspended Emefiele from his position with immediate effect on Friday evening. Emefiele was instructed to hand over his responsibilities to the Deputy Governor (Operations Directorate) while an investigation and reforms take place. There were unverified reports on Friday suggesting that the DSS had apprehended the suspended CBN governor.
However, the DSS spokesperson, Peter Afunaya, stated that he could not confirm the arrest.
The post read, “Currently, Emefiele is not with the DSS.”
