According to an announcement posted on the Department of State Services’ Twitter account on Saturday, June 10, 2023, it has been disclosed that Godwin Emefiele, the Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria who has been suspended, is currently being held in their custody.
The statement read, “The Department of State Services (DSS) hereby confirms that Mr Godwin Emefiele, the suspended Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria is now in its custody for some investigative reasons.
“The public, particularly the media, is enjoined to apply utmost caution in the reportage and narratives concerning this.”
According to a report from Waffi TV, President Bola Tinubu issued an immediate suspension of Emefiele from his position on Friday night. As a result of this suspension, Emefiele was instructed to promptly transfer the responsibilities of his role to the Deputy Governor (Operations Directorate), Adebisi Shonubi, who will assume the position of acting CBN governor until the investigation and reforms are concluded.
Late on Friday, unverified reports surfaced suggesting that the Department of State Services had apprehended the suspended CBN governor.
