Mr. Remi Omowaye, the former Commissioner for Works in Osun State, has urged Nigerians to show their support for Damilola Adeparusi, a chef from Ekiti State, as she attempts to set a new world record for the longest cooking time. In a statement released in Osogbo on Sunday, Omowaye emphasized the importance of encouraging Adeparusi in her pursuit of breaking a record previously set by another Nigerian. He expressed his endorsement by donating N100,000 to the chef and praised her for showcasing traditional Ekiti cuisine, which is not widely known outside the state.
According to the statement, Omowaye asserted that there should be a positive focus on Adeparusi’s aspirations instead of inundating her with criticisms. He acknowledged that records are meant to be broken and highlighted the abundance of opportunities available for individuals to excel in their respective fields. He viewed Adeparusi’s endeavor as a means for her to establish a reputation for herself and emphasized the value of healthy competition.
While expressing his support, Omowaye also criticized the inadequate planning for the cooking marathon, suggesting that provisions should have been made for medical personnel in case of emergencies. Nevertheless, he commended the chef for her dedication to preparing local dishes.
Additionally, Omowaye advised Adeparusi to include a variety of traditional Ekiti meals, such as Feregede, Otili, Pakala, Usu Eura, Usu Olo, Ewa Alagbado, Eusaa, and Egbo, throughout the cooking marathon.
