A support organization within the All Progressives Congress, known as the Progressive Support Group, has urged the members-elect of the House of Representatives and the Nigerian public to reject any attempts by the ruling party to impose its chosen leadership on the legislature, as there are approximately 72 hours remaining until the inauguration of the 10th National Assembly. The organization emphasized that such resistance is crucial in order to prevent the disruption of the nation’s democracy and the appropriation of parliamentary power away from fulfilling their responsibilities to the electorate.
In a statement, Silas Wettok, the spokesperson for the group, emphasized the importance of prioritizing the national interest of Nigeria above any political faction or individual. Wettok called upon the members-elect to throw their support behind Hon. Muktar Aliyu Betara, the representative of Biu/Bayo/Shani Federal Constituency in Borno State, for the position of Speaker in the upcoming 10th National Assembly.
