South Africa: Earthquake Hits Johannesburg

According to Reuters, Johannesburg, the biggest city in South Africa, experienced an earthquake with a magnitude of 5.0 in the early hours of Sunday morning.

The United States Geological Survey (USGS) stated that the earthquake occurred at 0038 GMT, approximately 10 kilometers (6 miles) beneath the surface. The article mentioned that certain residents of Johannesburg reported sensing tremors.

One of the residents wrote on Twitter, “Earth tremor in Johannesburg. Longest and strongest I have felt! Went on for about 30 seconds, it felt like.” 

Nonetheless, Crisis24, a consultancy specializing in security risk and crisis management, confirmed that no reports of damage or casualties were recorded in connection with the earthquake.
