On Tuesday, Senator Godswill Obot Akpabio was sworn into office after emerging victorious over his rival Abdul’aziz Abubakar Yari.
Akpabio secured 63 votes, surpassing Yari’s 46 votes. He made a commitment to fulfill his responsibilities and carry out his duties in accordance with the provisions of Nigeria’s constitution.
Akpabio, who is both a lawyer and a politician, previously held the position of Minister for Niger Delta Affairs from 2019 to 2022.
However, he resigned on May 11, 2022, following President Muhammadu Buhari’s directive, in order to participate in the presidential primaries of the All Progressives Congress.
