The arrest of a 16-year-old boy named Nathaniel Ogenowchukwu has been confirmed by the Edo State Police Command. The arrest was made in relation to the alleged sexual assault of a two-year-old girl in the Egba community, located in the Uhunmwonde Local Government Area of the state.
According to Chidi Nwabuzor, the Police Public Relations Officer of the state, the arrest took place after the police received a report about the incident. He also mentioned that the gender unit of the police command is currently investigating the case.
Nwabuzor further stated that once the investigation is concluded, the suspect will be brought before the court to face charges. In an interview with journalists, Ogenowchukwu expressed his lack of understanding regarding his actions, claiming he was unaware of what came over him.
He said, “The two-year-old girl always comes to meet my sister. She came on this day and I told her to go back home because my sister was not around but she refused to go.
“So, I carried her, put her on the bed and pulled her knickers halfway down. But I only put my penis in between her lap. I didn’t know what came over me, because I haven’t done it before.”
