On Tuesday, it was reported that three individuals, including a police officer and a woman, were abducted on the Naka/Makurdi road.
The incident occurred at Ahume around 4 pm. The victims were returning from a funeral when they were unexpectedly ambushed by kidnappers who took them away.
The abductors later made contact with the victims’ relatives, demanding a ransom of N1.7 million. Andrew Ayande, the Chairman of Gwer West local government, confirmed the occurrence on Wednesday and stated that the area had a reputation for criminal activities. He explained that the incident took place after a recent loss of a prominent person in the vicinity. The abductors targeted one of the vehicles carrying the victims.
The vehicle has been brought to the Naka police station. Ayande also confirmed that the kidnappers requested N200,000 from the police officer’s family, N1 million from the woman, and N500,000 from the other victim. However, the State Command spokesperson, Catherine Anene, mentioned that she had not yet received the official report when contacted.
