Two prominent traditional rulers in Ondo state, namely the Olugbon of Ugbo, Oba Frederick Akinruntan, and the Amapetu of Mahin, Oba Oluwasegun Akinyomi, have expressed their admiration for Government Oweizide Ekpemupolo, a former Nigerian militant commander associated with the movement for the Emancipation of the Niger Delta (MEND). The monarchs lauded Ekpemupolo, popularly known as Tompolo, for his successful efforts in safeguarding oil pipelines and ensuring efficient service delivery.
These commendations were conveyed during a visit by High Chief Idowu Asonja, the coordinator of Tompolo’s activities in Ondo State, to the palaces of the respective monarchs.
Oba Akinruntan praised Tompolo’s exceptional performance in securing oil pipelines, emphasizing that the major stakeholders in the Niger Delta Region stand firmly in support of him.
The monarch appealed to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to extend Tompolo’s contract with the federal government, acknowledging his extensive knowledge of the coastal region and his remarkable capacity and capability to deliver effectively.
“It’s incredible to see his consistent achievements for the proper protection of the oil pipeline”.
Oba Akinruntan expressed his gratitude towards Tompolo for selecting Idowu Asonja, a highly respected individual from the Ilaje community, as the Ondo State Coordinator. The monarch described Asonja as hardworking, humble, civilized, and loyal, emphasizing that he is someone who can be entrusted with a significant position without any concerns.
In his response, the monarch praised Asonja for effectively engaging with influential individuals and highlighted his deep understanding of tradition, acknowledging his ability to make the right decisions at the appropriate moments.
“Frankly, I salute your wisdom and manner of consultations. I want to assure you that you have my total unflinching support and the throne of Ugboland shall back all your activities to succeed .”
“As a royal father to all, I want to advise you to do more and carry everybody along while recruiting people that will work for the success of Tantita Security Services and also ensure that no community in Ilaje that is left out when the benefits of this lofty security outfit begin to materialize.”
Subsequently, he appealed to Tompolo to prioritize Ondo State by extending considerable support to its traditional rulers, essential stakeholders, and the state coordinator. He emphasized that Ondo State possesses the highest concentration of oil wells along the coastline.
“The traditional rulers, critical stakeholders from the mandate areas and Ondo State Coordinator have to be given needed patronage and robustly carried along for effective service delivery”.
At the palace of Oba Oluwasegun Akinyomi, the monarch, said, “Tompolo’s tremendous performance has helped push up our country revenues to greater heights, the result Tompolo has achieved within a space of 10 months has consequently increased the economy of Nigeria beyond expectations, hence curtailing the activities of oil pipeline vandalisation and illegal bunkering”.
During his speech, High Chief Idowu Asonja expressed his gratitude to the two monarchs for their remarkable affection towards Tompolo.
Asonja extended his appreciation to all the traditional rulers, security personnel, and former militant leaders in Ilajeland for providing him with a conducive environment to carry out his duties effectively, free from any conflicts. He further commended their unwavering cooperation.
