Governor Bala Mohammed of Bauchi State, during his interaction with journalists in Bauchi on Saturday, appealed to Nigerians for patience as the government addresses the challenges caused by the removal of fuel subsidy.
He reassured that the National Economic Council’s committee, of which he is a member, will propose suitable measures that will benefit everyone. One of the recommendations put forth by the committee involves procuring a significant fleet of mass transit buses to serve Nigerians.
Additionally, the committee intends to suggest modifications to workers’ salaries and the implementation of diverse intervention programs utilizing the revenue generated from the removal of the subsidy.
“The committee will work for the collective interest of Nigerians.
“Members of the committee under the leadership of Kebbi Governor, Dr Nasiru Idris remain resolute in recommending fair modalities for judicious distribution of palliative to all the relevant sectors.”
Regardless of political party differences, he emphasized that the distribution would encompass all sectors affected by the removal of the subsidy.
“Both opposition and the ruling APC governors understood that the move by the Federal Government was a step in the right direction and the process will not be politicized,” he assured.
In addition, Mohammed stated that both the NEC and representatives of Organised Labour acknowledged that the removal of the subsidy has both advantages and challenges.
“It has subjected Nigerians, especially the common citizens to hardship, hence, the move to alleviate their sufferings.
“Government and Organised Labour understood that the move has brought about benefits and challenges, that is why right steps are being taken in that direction,” the governor added.
Therefore, he appealed to Nigerians to exercise patience, assuring them that life will hold greater significance once the federal government implements the recommendations put forth by the NEC.
