Nigerian business mogul Aliko Dangote and Bill Gates, Co-Chair of the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation, have extended their congratulations to President Bola Tinubu for the recent removal of fuel subsidy and other notable achievements by the new administration.
Dangote shared this information during a conversation with State House correspondents after both he and Gates met with the President in his office on Monday.
According to Dangote, the expectation is that the elimination of fuel subsidy will provide the country with improved financial capabilities to invest in areas such as education and overall development of the citizens.
The business magnate also highlighted that the purpose of their courtesy visit was to congratulate the President and update him on the activities of the Bill Gates and Aliko Dangote Foundations. They sought further commitments from the President, particularly in advancing the nation’s health sector.
Dangote further expressed optimism, stating that Nigerians have been benefiting greatly and should expect more positive developments, affirming that things are progressing well.
In response, President Tinubu assured that the health and safety of Nigerians, particularly the workforce, would be prioritized. He emphasized that a country’s development is reliant on the well-being of its citizens.
The President pledged his administration’s commitment to support the success of their work in Nigeria and Africa, particularly in eradicating polio, measles, malaria, and other diseases from the continent. Tinubu acknowledged Gates’ capacity to assist developing nations more effectively.
Since his inauguration, Tinubu has been receiving prominent guests at the Aso Rock. Earlier in the day, he met with Sunil Mittal, Chairman of Bharti Airtel Worldwide, accompanied by Segun Ogunsanya, CEO of Airtel Nigeria, and other members of the company’s board.
Tinubu also held a meeting with Geoffrey Praytt, the United States Assistant Secretary of State, Bureau of Energy Resources, as well as Mele Kyari, the Group CEO of the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC) Limited.
