Why I Endorsed Akpabio To Become Senate President- Wike Reveals

Wike revealed this information during a special thanksgiving service organized by his family at the St. Peters Deanery, Rumuepirikom, Obio-Akpor area of the state on Sunday

Former Rivers State Governor, Nyesom Wike, has provided an explanation for his support of Godswill Akpabio’s election as the 10th Senate President of the National Assembly. According to Wike, Akpabio has been a loyal supporter for a long time. Wike mentioned that during his campaign in 2014 and 2015, Akpabio generously contributed N200 million towards its success.

Wike revealed this information during a special thanksgiving service organized by his family at the St. Peters Deanery, Rumuepirikom, Obio-Akpor area of the state on Sunday. The former governor emphasized that despite facing significant criticism, Akpabio supported his aspirations to become governor in 2015.

“When I was running in 2014 and 2015 he came out and supported me. He gave me N200 million for that election.

“That is why I said one good turn deserves another. I supported him this time, and I thank God he won,” he said.

In response to Wike’s assertion, Akpabio clarified that the N200 million he provided to Wike in 2015 did not come from Akwa Ibom’s funds during his tenure as governor there. The Senate President emphasized that the money originated from his personal savings accumulated from his previous role as a managing director in the telecom sector, prior to assuming the governorship.
