In a conversation with State House correspondents on Tuesday following his decoration as Inspector General of Police (IGP), Kayode Egbetokun conveyed his determination to tackle criminal activities in Nigeria, likening himself to a poised tiger ready to apprehend offenders.

He shared his excitement about assuming his new role and expressed anticipation for his official takeover scheduled for Wednesday at 11 am.

He said, “I will tell you that right now, I feel like a Tiger inside of me ready to chase away all the criminals in Nigeria. And some other time, I feel like a lion in me ready to devour all the internal enemies of Nigeria.”

At a brief ceremony held at the Presidential Villa in Abuja, Vice President Kashim Shettima officially conferred the newly-appointed Inspector General of Police (IGP) with his elevated rank.

The event was witnessed by prominent government officials, including the Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF) George Akume, Imo State Governor Hope Uzodimma, Chief of Staff to the President Femi Gbajabiamila, National Security Adviser (NSA) Nuhu Ribadu, and the outgoing IGP Alkali Baba.

During the ceremony, Shettima was assisted by Mr. Egbetokun’s spouse, Mrs. Egbetokun. The newly-appointed IGP assumes the position after the former President Muhammadu Buhari’s appointment of Baba as the IGP in 2021.
