The immidiate past, Governor of Delta State, His Excellency, Sen. Dr. Ifeanyi Arthur Okowa CON, has been appreciated by Hon. Spencer O. Okpoye, Commissioner representing the Ijaw ethnic nationality on the Board of the Delta State Oil Producing Areas Development Commission (DESOPADEC). The appreciate came in a letter sent by Hon. Okpoye to the former governor.
In an open letter, Hon. Okpoye began by congratulating Dr. Okowa on the remarkable victory in the Governorship Election and the State House of Assembly elections, as well as his successful administration as the Executive Governor of Delta State for eight years. He also commended the smooth handover of power to the current Executive Governor, Rt. Hon. Sheriff Oborivwori.
Expressing gratitude for the appointment, Hon. Okpoye recalled a previous appeal made to Dr. Okowa during the primary for the Warri North Local Government Council Chairmanship election. At that time, Hon. Smart Yomi Asekutu was considered the candidate of their party, and Hon. Okpoye was one of the contestants. Dr. Okowa had promised to consider him for a position when the new DESOPADEC Board would be inaugurated, a promise that has now been fulfilled.
Hon. Okpoye expressed his elation at the appointment, emphasizing the opportunity it provides him to serve and bring development to his people and the state as a whole. He credited his confidence in this role to the leadership style of Dr. Okowa, which has been characterized by the delivery of people-oriented quality projects in the oil-producing communities.
Highlighting Dr. Okowa’s courage and commitment to his decisions, Hon. Okpoye acknowledged that the appointment at the end of the former governor’s administration demonstrated his unwavering character. He praised Dr. Okowa as a promise keeper and thanked him for the opportunity to serve.
