Yunusa Dahiru, also known as Yellow, a native of Kano, who was imprisoned for 26 years at a Nigerian Correctional Service facility for child trafficking and sexually exploiting Ese Oruru, has been released on Saturday.
The release of Yellow was confirmed to reporters by DSC Musbahu Lawan Kofar-Naisa, the spokesperson for the Kano Command of the Nigerian Correctional Service.
In 2015, Yellow allegedly abducted Ese from Bayelsa and brought her to Kano State, where he reportedly forced her into marriage and impregnated her.
Yellow was initially sentenced to 26 years by a Federal High Court in Bayelsa State. However, he appealed the judgment and the Port Harcourt Division of the Court of Appeal reduced his sentence to 7 years.
DSC Kofar-Naisa expressed satisfaction with Yellow’s conduct throughout his time in the correctional facility, both in Bayelsa and after his transfer to Kano. It was also mentioned that Yellow had enrolled in secondary education while in the correctional facility.
