By Adejoh Cynthia:

On Saturday, a group of 125 stranded Nigerians returned to the country from Port Sudan, marking another successful evacuation effort. Last month, a total of 2,518 stranded Nigerians were already brought back from Sudan, prompting the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) to organize further operations to rescue those still awaiting repatriation.

According to our sources, a Tarco Airlines aircraft departed from Port Sudan International Airport on Saturday, June 24, at 10:45 am, carrying the 125 Nigerian nationals who arrived in Nigeria at 4:45 pm the same day.

Mustapha Ahmed, the Director-General of NEMA, who was represented by Onimode Bandele, the Director of Special Duties, confirmed that among the passengers, three were the remaining students, reassuring that the final batch of evacuees would arrive on Sunday.

Ahmed stated, “The Federal Government has given us the go-ahead to do two more flights. One arrived today and we are expecting the last flight any moment from tomorrow (Sunday).

“On board today, we have 125 passengers, out of which three are the last batch of students. We had 22 children on board. I want to thank the Federal Government for giving NEMA the support and we promise as an agency to give the government the best of our output to ensure that our mandate is performed to the latter.”
