Kola Oredipe, the Director General of Bayelsa State Government’s New Media, confidently stated that Governor Douye Diri of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) does not have any competitors in the upcoming governorship election on November 11.
Oredipe expressed his belief that Governor Diri’s administration has performed exceptionally well and deserves a second term in office. He highlighted the significant projects and infrastructure initiatives implemented by the governor over the past three years, including roads, bridges, healthcare, education, sports, agriculture, empowerment programs for women and youths, enhanced security, and improved welfare for workers and pensioners in the state.
During a meeting with members of the Federated Correspondents’ Chapel of the Nigeria Union of Journalists, Bayelsa State Council, held at the FCC secretariat in Yenagoa on Monday, Oredipe confidently declared that the governor is certain to win re-election at the polls.
Oredipe said, “I can tell you that if election is conducted today, Governor Douye Diri will win in all the eight local government areas of Bayelsa State, regardless of where the other candidates come from.
“The project Bayelsa is very key to him, and he feels very strongly about it. He restored peace and order to the state on assumption of office. Infrastructure wise – remarkable achievements in roads, education, sports, empowerment, and different skills acquisition programmes. He has done so much in all these areas.”
The head of the new media department argued that Governor Diri’s administration has made significant achievements in major projects, including the Nembe Unity Bridge, Elebele Bridge, Imiringi Bridge, and the ongoing construction of the Nembe-Brass Road, Yenagoa-Oporoma Road, as well as the accreditation of courses for the Bayelsa State College of Education, Sagbama, and the Niger Delta University. These accomplishments have contributed to the overall development and governance of all regions within the state.
Additionally, he highlighted the existing peace in Bayelsa, which has paved the way for further investments in the Blue Economy. Efforts are underway to leverage the state’s marine resources and develop the critical three senatorial roads that will facilitate access to the sea.
Oredipe said, “Having been a public servant, a teacher, with rich experience in private businessman and politics; as commissioner, deputy chief of staff, principal executive secretary to a governor, House of Reps member and senator and now governor, it’s not surprising that His Excellency has been able to achieve a lot.”
In response to inquiries, he clarified that the governor has issued instructions for the redesign, reconstruction, and rehabilitation of various internal roads within the Yenagoa metropolis, along with the installation of drainage systems. The necessary actions to address these issues will soon begin in order to improve the living conditions of the residents.
