Victor Osimhen, a Nigerian striker, has been honored with the prestigious Best African Player award at the Ghana Football Awards. This accolade places him ahead of Riyadh Mahrez and Mohammed Salah, both winners of the treble. Osimhen, who is 24 years old, contributed significantly to Napoli’s victory in the Serie A championship, their first in over thirty years, by scoring 31 goals in various competitions last season.

This outstanding performance has resulted in numerous awards and record-breaking achievements for the Super Eagles forward, including his most recent recognition at the Ghanaian award ceremony. In an online video, Osimhen expressed gratitude to the organizers for the honor and vowed to bring pride to Africa. The official Twitter account of the Ghana Football Awards shared the video.

“It is a great privilege for me to win this award, it’s really a great honour. Thank you to those who voted for me and the support. Major thanks to the organisers of Ghana Football Awards for their love and support also, I appreciate you all for this recognition.

“I will keep making Africa proud, thank you all and God bless you,” he said.

Furthermore, Osimhen played a pivotal role for the Eagles, netting two goals as they triumphed over Sierra Leone with a 3-2 victory, securing their qualification for the upcoming AFCON tournament in Ivory Coast. Osimhen’s outstanding performance throughout the season earned him the coveted top scorer award, with an impressive tally of 26 goals. Additionally, he surpassed the long-standing record held by former World Player of the Year, George Weah, becoming the highest-scoring African player in Serie A history.
