The Nigerian government has persistently refused to grant him freedom.
By Musa Ibrahim:
Yul Edochie, a controversial actor in the Nigerian film industry, has made a plea to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, urging him to release Nnamdi Kanu, the leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB). Kanu has been imprisoned since his arrest and extradition from Kenya to Nigeria two years ago.
Kanu’s detention stems from his active pursuit of the realization of Biafra, a secessionist movement. Despite court orders for Kanu’s release, the Nigerian government has persistently refused to grant him freedom.
Taking to Twitter on Tuesday morning, Edochie directed his appeal towards Tinubu, whom he recognized as a prominent figure who had fought for democracy for three decades. Edochie implored Tinubu to intervene and secure Kanu’s release from the custody of the Department of State Security (DSS).
“To our Leader, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, @officialABAT GCFR. The Jagaban,” Edochie tweeted.
“A man who has fought for democracy for 3 decades, A builder & supporter of men & women.
“My President, please release Nnamdi Kanu. A humble request from your son, Yul Edochie.”
