The DELTA State Council of Traditional Rulers has made a decision to intervene in the dispute between Chief Edwin Clark, an elder statesman, and the immediate past governor of the State, Dr. Ifeanyi Okowa.

Chief Clark and Governor Okowa have been in conflict over allegations made by Chief Clark accusing the former governor of mismanaging the 13 percent derivation funds.

During a meeting at Asaba, the Council members issued a three-point communique, stating that their decision to get involved in the matter was influenced by a request from the Delta State Ethnic Nationalities Youth Council, who had visited the Council.

The Chairman of the Council, Rtd Major-General Felix Mujakpuero, Orhue 1, read the communique and stated that after carefully reviewing the presentation by the youth leaders, the Council had decided to address the matter in the near future.

He was accompanied by the 1st Vice Chairman, Pere SP Luke Kalanama V111, representing Pere of Akugbene Mien, as well as the 2nd Vice Chairman, Obi of Ubulu Unor Agbgidi Henry Kikachukwu 1, and the immediate past Chairman of the Council, Obi of Owa, Dr. Emmanuel Efeizomor 11.

The traditional rulers praised the youth leaders for their concern regarding the issue, particularly their commitment to pursuing peace, and expressed their pride in them.

Earlier, Comrade Weyinmi Agbateyiniro, the Coordinating Chairman of the youth body and President of Itsekiri National Youth Council, stated that the elder statesman’s criticisms of Governor Okowa were unwarranted.

“We view our foremost leader, Chief Clark’s attacks and petition against Okowa as avoidable and unnecessary media trial of the former Governor and we urge the Council to intervene,” he said.
