Bishop Mathew Kukah of the Sokoto Catholic Diocese has urged the Federal Government to uphold the constitutional and legal provisions that guarantee freedom of religion and worship. Bishop Kukah suggested that one way to accomplish this is by establishing places of worship for followers of different faiths within various Federal Government institutions across the country.
Speaking to reporters after the inaugural Mass at the Catholic chaplaincy of the 119 Composite Group of the Nigeria Air Force in Sokoto, the Bishop emphasized the significance of these places of worship in allowing personnel to practice their religion freely. He pointed out that many federal government universities, medical centers, and other establishments lack provisions for Christian places of worship, particularly in several parts of Northern Nigeria. This situation violates the constitutional rights of citizens.
