The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has announced that it has been presented with 215 case files by the Nigerian Police regarding electoral misconduct during the 2023 general elections. INEC Chairman, Prof. Mahmood Yakubu, shared this information during a meeting with Resident Electoral Commissioners (RECs) from various states to evaluate the general election.
Prof. Yakubu further stated that the commission is collaborating with the Nigerian Bar Association (NBA) to prosecute those responsible for the electoral offenses. He mentioned that the NBA has assigned 427 lawyers who will handle the cases pro bono.
Additionally, Prof. Yakubu informed the attendees that INEC has obtained the police report on the suspended Adamawa Resident Electoral Commissioner, Yunusa Ari. He emphasized that appropriate actions regarding Mr. Ari will be taken by INEC in the near future.
