President Bola Tinubu and Vice President Kashim Shettima presented the membership register of the Labour Party (LP) for Anambra State as evidence to support their claim that Peter Obi is not a registered member of the party. Tinubu and Shettima responded to the petition filed by Obi and the LP, asserting that Obi, who was not a party member during the last presidential election, was ineligible to contest on the LP’s platform.
Their legal representative, Chief Wole Olanipekun (SAN), submitted the document along with a letter from the LP dated April 25, 2022, which transmitted the membership register to the Chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC). These documents were presented alongside other materials at the beginning of Tinubu and Shettima’s defense in the petition brought by Obi and the LP before the Presidential Election Petition Court (PEPC).
Despite objections raised by the petitioners’ lawyer, Livy Uzoukwu (SAN), regarding the inclusion of the documents, the court overruled the objections and accepted them as evidence. The court proceeded to designate the documents as Exhibits RA17 and RA18.
