The proposed three-day event known as the “Kiss-a-Thon” or “Kissing Marathon Event” that was scheduled to start on Friday, July 7, has been prohibited by the Ekiti State Government. Additionally, the government has issued a cautionary message to the hoteliers’ association in the state, advising them against hosting such an event due to its unhealthy and immoral nature.
This advisory was communicated through a letter directed to the Secretary of the Ekiti State Hoteliers’ Association, signed by Adelusi A. L on behalf of Dele Ogunsemoyin, the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Arts, Culture, and Tourism.
“Kiss-A-Thon”, as an event is not only absurd, unhealthy, immoral and capable of denigrating the image of the state, it is a programme that runs counter to the values of the people of the state and therefore capable of plunging our youths morally backward,” the statement read.
“The Ministry of Arts, Culture and Tourism hereby prohibits the hosting of such event or any other events like it in any facility that wishes to continue to operate lawfully in Ekiti State.
“You are hereby requested to convey the content of this notice to the members of Ekiti State Hoteliers’ Association to effectively monitor their outlets against being used negatively to cause embarrassment to the government and people of Ekiti State.”
The organizers of the event had stated that their intention was to set a new Guinness World Record for the longest kissing marathon. Recently, Guinness World Records gained significant popularity in Nigeria following Hilda Baci’s achievement in June.
Baci, a Nigerian chef, became the new record holder for the longest individual cooking session. Inspired by Baci’s success, numerous Nigerians subsequently made attempts at marathons in activities such as cooking and body massage.
