In Okotomi area, Okpanam, Oshimili North Local Government of Delta State, a three-storey building that was under construction collapsed. The building, intended for use as a hotel, crumbled at approximately 6 pm on Friday. At the time of reporting, there have been no reported casualties.
This incident adds to the growing number of building collapses that have occurred throughout the country. Just this past Monday, a five-storey building under construction collapsed in the Lifecamp area of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Abuja. Prompt emergency response, including the efforts of the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA), resulted in the successful rescue of at least nine individuals who were trapped in the Abuja collapsed building.
Furthermore, on June 29, another building under construction, located in Obio/Akpor Local Government Area in Rivers State, collapsed, causing injuries to four individuals.
In response to the recent collapse, the Rivers State Government has made a commitment to hold accountable all those responsible for the actions that led to the building’s collapse.
