Hilda Baci, the holder of a Guiness World Record, will be showcasing her exceptional culinary expertise in Lagos on Friday, July 14th, with the goal of raising funds for a widow. According to a report by the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN), Baci’s delectable dishes will be sampled as part of an initiative led by Joseph Edgar, also known as The Duke of Shomolu, aimed at supporting widows and empowering them to become self-sufficient.
Edgar, the CEO of Duke of Shomolu Productions, a theatrical play production company, shared this information with NAN on Sunday. He expressed that Baci’s captivating skills, which have captivated the world and led her to become a Guiness record holder, will be showcased to raise one million naira for a widow.
Edgar further revealed that this initiative has been ongoing for the past three years and has successfully generated over ten million naira to support deserving widows.
“The initiative involves very close friends and associates of The Duke of Shomolu, donating cash instead of gifts to mark his birthdays.
“The cash gifts are then sent to needy widows, who would have been nominated by members of the public.
“Last year, N2 million was donated to four deserving widows by the friends and associates of the Duke of Shomolu
“This year, N3 million was raised with the winner, who got N1 million, nominated by a director at Keystone Bank, Mr Yemi Odusanya, who incidentally shares same birthday with the Duke.”
Edgar personally selected 10 widows from a pool of nearly 100 nominees and distributed one million naira among them. He mentioned that Baci would be preparing a meal for a group of 10 individuals at the Ivy Hotel in Emerald, located in Ikeja GRA, Lagos.
Edgar added that the amount of one million naira would be donated to a widow chosen by Baci herself. He also mentioned that Prothrive Astute Heights Ltd., the company behind Grandios Pap, would be sponsoring the event as part of their social responsibility efforts.
