Lagos: 18 Partygoers Die In Auto Crash

In the Badagry area of Lagos State, a devastating incident occurred on what became known as Black Sunday. A commercial bus, carrying 18 passengers who were partygoers, tragically crashed, resulting in the loss of all lives on board.

Adding to the sorrow, both the bus driver and his assistant, known as the motor boy, also lost their lives in the accident.

According to reports, the passengers who met a tragic fate had chartered the bus from the Yaba area of Lagos with the intention of attending a group party in the Republic of Benin.

The accident occurred around 9am at Age-Mowo, near Mowo, along the Lagos-Badagry Expressway, as confirmed by Taofiq Adebayo, the spokesperson for the state’s traffic management agency.

“It involved a Mazda commercial bus with passengers and a truck loaded with sand,” Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA) official told Channels Television.

“The driver of the commercial bus lost control when he saw a truck ahead of him while trying to overtake the tipper truck loaded with sand.

“Immediately, 20 people died including the 18 passengers alongside the commercial bus driver and his motor boy.”

According to Adebayo, the bodies of the victims have been transported to the morgue at Badagry General Hospital.

The traffic management agency expressed its heartfelt condolences to the families of those who lost their lives in the tragic accident.
