Nigeria emerged victorious in the Zone 3 African U-21 Nations Women’s Volleyball Championship held in Niamey, Niger Republic, in 2023. In the final match on Sunday night, Nigeria defeated Ghana with a score of 3-0 (25-10, 25-15, 25-10) to secure the championship title. Right from the beginning, the Nigerian team demonstrated their strength by defeating Ghana in their opening match of the tournament with a convincing 3-0 (25-11, 25-15, 25-8) win.

Their winning streak continued in the second match against the host nation, Niger, where they achieved another impressive victory of 3-0 (25-4, 25-11, 25-4).

The team maintained their dominant performance in the third match against Benin Republic, securing a comprehensive 3-0 (25-15, 25-15, 25-9) win and earning a spot in the final against Ghana once again.

After the match, Coach Rakiya Mohammed expressed gratitude to God for the team’s success. She said, “We are thankful to God because this is Nigeria’s first time clinching a trophy at the underage level. I am extremely happy. The team is expected to return to Nigeria later today, celebrating their remarkable achievement in the tournament.
