Transfer: PSG Eyes Osimhen As Mbappé’s Replacement

La Gazzetta dello Sport has confirmed that Victor Osimhen, the star player of Napoli, is the main target for Paris Saint-Germain (PSG) in the transfer market if Kylian Mbappé leaves this summer. Mbappé has publicly expressed his intention to leave PSG as a free agent when his contract expires in June 2024, but PSG is looking to sell him this summer if he doesn’t sign a new contract. According to Sunday’s edition of La Gazzetta dello Sport, Osimhen will be PSG’s primary target if Mbappé departs. PSG has already had a €100 million bid rejected by Napoli, who have set their asking price at €180 million.

If Mbappé is sold in the summer, it will significantly strengthen PSG’s finances and potentially allow them to meet Napoli’s asking price. Napoli, the Serie A champions, still hope to extend Osimhen’s contract beyond 2025 and have a good relationship with his agent, Roberto Calenda. The report also states that Napoli’s primary target if Osimhen leaves is Jonathan David, the forward from Lille. Several English Premier League clubs, including Manchester United, Chelsea, and Liverpool, have reportedly started negotiations with Napoli for the signing of Osimhen.

Additionally, Napoli has initiated talks to extend Osimhen’s contract and is considering including a €200 million release clause in the new deal, according to Get Italy Football. Osimhen is currently in Nigeria, as Napoli has granted him an extended holiday to enjoy a well-deserved break before returning for pre-season training. While the rest of the Napoli squad will gather at their pre-season training camp in Dimaro on Monday, July 10, to begin their summer preparations, Osimhen has been given additional time due to his recent national team duties with the Nigerian national team, where he played on June 18 in a qualifying match for the upcoming African Cup against Sierra Leone.
