Yari Not Invited For Ignoring Tinubu’s Phone Call- DSS

The Department of State Services (DSS) has verified that Abdulaziz Yari, a former governor of Zamfara State and senator representing Zamfara West, has been summoned for questioning. In a statement on Sunday, DSS spokesperson Peter Afunanya confirmed this development but did not provide the specific motive for Yari’s invitation by the intelligence agency.

However, Afunanya dismissed the notion that Yari was invited due to his alleged disregard of a phone call from President Bola Tinubu, considering it to be a comical claim. In June, Yari had obtained a court order from the Federal High Court in Abuja, preventing security agencies, including the DSS, from arresting him. The former governor asserted that there were plans to apprehend him due to his decision to contest for the position of Senate President, contrary to the ruling All Progressives Congress’s arrangement that favored Godwill Akpabio, the Senator representing Akwa Ibom North-West, to assume the role in the 10th National Assembly.

Although Afunanya declined to disclose the specific reason for Yari’s invitation, he indicated that the senator himself was aware of the motive.

He said, “It is petty, if not laughable, to report that Yari was invited for refusing to pick up the President’s call. This is the height of junk journalism. Yari knows why he was invited.

“In fact, the service denies all the allegations as they lack any factual basis or credibility. They are only figments of the creators’ imaginations. This is more so that the publishers in question have been noted in and outside the country for their notoriety for peddling fake news, sensational and gutter journalism. Without a modicum of proper and civilised behaviour, they indulge in character assassinations and sundry blackmail as a business.”
